Green rice plants across the Fambul Rice farm

Farmers · Communities · National food security

Commercial growth with shared value.

The Fambul Rice growth model is designed to bring farmers, women and youth into a more organised, productive and dependable rice value chain.

01 / Inclusive expansion

A larger platform should create a wider circle of opportunity.

Fambul Rice’s outgrower model is designed to connect smallholders to inputs, training, mechanisation and a defined route to market.

The planned programme groups farmers into manageable cohorts, supports one-hectare plots and uses clear commercial arrangements to strengthen reliability for both farmers and the company.

02 / How the model works

From access to market

A practical pathway for farmer participation.

The model is designed around the constraints that often limit smallholder productivity and market confidence.

  1. 01

    Organise

Farmers are grouped into cohorts of one to seven for training, support and programme management.

  2. 02

    Equip

Seed, fertiliser and agrochemicals are planned for provision on credit under agreed terms.

  3. 03

    Build capability

SRI training and access to mechanisation support stronger field practices.

  4. 04

    Connect to market

Guaranteed off-take arrangements and a transparent floor-and-ceiling pricing model are designed to reduce uncertainty.

Women and youth

Inclusion designed into the expansion model.

Participation is not treated as a side programme. It is part of how the future supply network is intended to grow.

The company profile sets a target of at least 40% women within the planned outgrower programme and identifies women and youth participation as a core element of inclusive growth.

04 / Company targets for 2027

The outcomes being pursued

Measure growth by what it makes possible.

The following are forward-looking targets stated in the company profile—not current results.

200+Jobs

Expected employment supported by the expansion pathway.

+8,000 MTLocal rice per year

Expected additional annual supply associated with the model.

30–40%Lower post-harvest losses

Targeted reduction through better handling and infrastructure.

05 / National relevance

Local rice is more than a product. It is national capability.

Increasing dependable domestic supply shortens the distance between Sierra Leonean consumers and the food they rely on.

Fambul Rice is positioning commercial agriculture, planned processing and farmer participation as mutually reinforcing parts of that ambition—aligned with Feed Salone and the national rice-development agenda.
